(SOLVED!) XFCE in Session Manager?
« on: January 19, 2013, 06:28:05 AM »
I'm running KDE as my main DE.  I have gnome and LXDE installed, as well.

This morning, I installed XFCE, but it does not apper in the session list.  I tried doing a reinstall but no help.

Update - I did a complete removal.

In Konsole I issued "Thunar" and got:

Quote
xfconf-WARNING **: Error check failed at xfconf_channel_get_internal():442: Property "/default-view" does not exist on channel "thunar

And Thunar launches.

You have to use GDM as your display manager or reinstall KDM/xfce4-session packages to be able to login to Xfce

GDM?  All I know is, in the past, I added task-XFCE and the DE came up listed in the session manager.

xfce4-session is installed.

I double checked and GDM (Gnome Desktop manager) is installed.  I'll do a reinstall now.

you have to enable gdm in the pcc -> System start -> configure display manager -> tick gdm and press ok
The full life is a big mess

That worked!:)  I see XFCE and all DEs listed.:)  Thank you!:)

However, I've never, ever, ever EVER, seen this option before. I've never toggled this option before!  Wow!  I' jumped back into the KDE DE, but how does GDM affect KDE and the other DEs?

Sorry to be so slow on the uptake, but with each new day, Linux presents a new feature I've never seen or used before.  Pretty amazing.:)  I learn something new each day.:)  i guess this is why I love this OS so much.:)

But, my session splach screen has changed and that's okay.

I just don't understand why XFCE was available in the past with my KDM session manager and now it's not.  Unless, in the past, I was using GDM all along and never knew it?

i can't give a exact answer. better question would be is kdm or xfce the problem. this is also not clearly answerable for me.
it seems like kdm starts all other DEs but xfce not but if i compare the session starter files they are nearly the same just differences in the names and descriptions. the session starter files are normally stored in /etc/X11/< cant remember the folder name> except for kde. this entry is stored in /usr/share/apps/kdm or so. but copying the file of xfce in this location does also not work. i'm a bit out of knowledge in this case also the integration guide for xfce into kdm on the xfce site does not help :/
The full life is a big mess
