Panels disappeared following update
« on: January 08, 2013, 10:32:22 AM »
Base install is LXDE with XFCE installed later. I've been using XFCE as my preferred DE until the most recent (earlier today) update. I've lost both my XFCE panels and the XFCE4 Settings manager is now empty.

Is this a side-effect of there being no XFCE maintainer, or maybe connected with the REPO moves?

Either way, what's needed to bring the panels and settings manager back?

I'm reluctant to update my other box as that runs Phoenix which hasn't been updated in a while as I don't want the same to happen there.

what was updated with the last update? You find the chronic in Synaptic -> File -> Chronic
The full life is a big mess

XFCE4 Settings manager is now empty

You need to install garcon for it.

Xfce-panel is reconfigured (it replaces the old xfce package: xfce4-config)

Xfce 4.10 is a bit different as 4.8.
Some  applications and libs are renamed by the Xfce devs.
Read some older posts in this section and maybe some reconfiguration is needed.

Maybe you missed this: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,110824.0.html

If you try to update to this version and Synaptic shows that many xfce packages will be uninstalled than please don't use the "Mark all updates" button. You have to mark libxfce4util for update. This causes the uninstall of some obsolete packages (should be around 10 or less) and then mark of some others for update.

Now you have to mark the rest of your installed xfce applications manually.

Installed Garcon and re-enabled panels from there. Old Config imported perfectly.  All good.

Many thanks.
