I remember back in the day...

Driving a company truck, and pulling up along-side a guy with a car like this.  I asked him what he had under the hood (summertime, windows down).

He said that he bought a 426-hemi in the crate for 2500.00 and dropped it in.

Can you imagine that size of engine in that car with a 426..???

OK... I can still top this........

I friend of mine from way back... Bill Ens (he was a minister's son).  Bought a small Chrysler like this.  Not too sure on the model.  But it was small.  It had a 383 that was seriously modified.

It had a 4-speed standard in it.  He actually could lift the front tires off the pave in first & second gear.  He sold it, because it apparently had too much power... HEYYY!.

Another friend... Wes Ens.  No relative to the person prior.

Bought a 1956 Pontiac from "Draggin's Rod & Custom" in Saskatoon.  It had a 426-rat modified to 546 horses.  It had a 4-speed standard transmission in it.  At 50-mile-per-hour... he could drop it down to 3rd gear, and loose the back-end, and smoke coming out of the wheel-wells.

He sold it 6 months later.  I asked him, why.  he said it had too much power.  I said, Wes, there is never such a thing as TOO much power....

I did a lot of work to make my 73 340 dart sport hook up, but had to carry a box of spare u joints.  The weakest link in the drive chain,  it did jump off the line pretty good - well - when it stayed together.  ;D

I agree.

When I go to see/hear 1/4 mile track racing.... I'm one of the few that does NOT use ear protection.  I want to hear it all..!

My friend Jack, has a 1970 Dart swinger that he races at S.I.R. http://www.racesir.com/

It is a black car with the whole factory interior.  Unlike so many high-end 1/4 mile cars.

He twice got 440's massively modified, but blew shortly after.  So he got a 500-something aluminum block motor that does about 9.5 seconds in a 1/4 mile.

Of course, he had to take some driving course, once you exceed the 10-second mark.  But that motor cost him over 15,000.00 bucks.

I find it odd that the Government (appropriate Dept.) sets a speed limit for our roads and whoosh ,...
Beautiful Vehicle, you'd barely see it at night.

I know in the U.S. you can get a Drivers License at 16, but from memory can't drink at a Pub (Bar) till something like 21. I like the idea of getting licensed at 16 years, as far as drinking that'll happen at party's, or home I'm sure before 21.

Reason I brought this up is in Australia, You can Vote when you're 18, legally go and drink at a Bar, and get your License to drive a Car. Dumb huh ?

In the US:

Drivers license -16
Military enlistment - 17 (with parental consent)
Drinking alcohol including beer - 21 (anywhere)
Age of sexual consent varies from state to state - 16 - 18 (Federally - 18)

It used to be legal for an 18 yr old to drink beer in some states but the Feds forced all states to change the legal age to 21 or they would lose highway/road funding.

I remember when there were beer bars and liquor bars in Wisconsin, sometimes in the same building but separated. Liquor bars could serve beer, of course, but beer bars couldn't serve liquor. Beer bars had to be located outside the city limits.

Does any of that make any sense?

Back when I was in my late teens, I had 22 points against me.  At 10 points, they could take your driver's for 2 years.

I figured that I was buying way too many police-man's boots.  They couldn't afford to loose me as a paying customer.

I drove like there was no tomorrow until only a couple of years ago.  Getting older seems to have caught on hold on me.  I only do 10k over speed limit on the freeways now.
