KDE X86_64 Not Detecting My ATi HD 7770/HDTV Connection
« on: March 02, 2013, 08:50:24 PM »
Hello World, (LOL). Firstly, I've been away from this Fine Distro for some time (A couple of yrs). However, I have been watching & waiting for the 64 Bit to "Hit The streets". That all said, This Morning I Downloaded from NLUUG, (I see No More U.S.A.) and in the past NLUUG always worked well. Not knowing what to expect, I disconnected three of my four HDD's and "Let It Fly" LOL.
Installation went "Text Book" updates etc.

Now,I encountered "The exact same" ATi Driver problem that I had with 4-5 other Linux Distro's. For whatever reason, in Linux, the ATi HD 7000 Series does not produce sound of any sort through an HDMI Cable until Driver 12.6 or newer is installed. It was a known issue that i didn't discover until "My Brain turned to Mush" LOL. Now, any distro that has 12.6 (Most are at 13.1) my sound works Gr8. In addition, and FYI, it ONLY works using "pulse audio" in all distro's except PC-BSD. Strangely, PC-BSD doesn't work at all with the Newer ATi Cards. Only Nvidia Cards using HDMI 1.4a Cable. To elaborate a bit. After I found a Distro that was up to 12.6, I had sound through ALSA for Media Players and Skype. But NOTHING through a Browser. Before I talk you all to sleep, bottom line is I need the the ATi 12.6 or 13.1 if you have it Hidden in testing. You have changed the method to enter testing since I left. I have just spent about two hours trying to enter testing. I followed precisely the instructions by a Gent named Hootie...somebody that i found in the Developers Corner, I think. All i could achieve was an "Error Message" complaining about a bad checksum. I have No Clue what that meant. I did the "hash" check when Burning the ISO and had Nothing but Green OK's during Post. Also, I thought I read in the forum that the Dev's have Linux 3.7 "Rat Holed" as well. LOL. My Hardware has been running Rock solid Stable with 3.8 or 3.9. So,not to push the envelope, if possible i would like to have your latest Kernel.

 FYI, My System Hardware:

HDTV: JVC-JLC42BC3002.
Speakers: Logitech- Z-2300 2.1 Plugged into the HDTV Head Phone Port.
GPU: MSI- ATi HD 7770 (Standard Clocked)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X61100T BE (Turbo disabled)
RAM: 8 Gb of ADATA Gaming Series DDR3
Mobo: MSI-ATi 880G-E45
Boot Drive: Western Digital Raptor 150 Gb
DVD-ROM & DVD-RW

                                                                                                                                  Enough Said & Thx.

                                                                                                                                  Tom

Edit: Thx just17. I enabled X64 test. It upgraded fglrx & X11 fglrx. I reinstalled in PCL CC trying BOTH HD 2000 options & restarted each time. ATi CCC is still showing 12.04 installed. Synaptic is showing 9.12 test as installed. However, it doesn't indicate anything about X86_64. I'm wondering if the Dev's upgraded the ATi 9.12 to X86_64 or if I did something wrong. I also tried installing "task-pulse audio" & pavucontrol". It gives me an "Error Message" Window showing it didn't install. It might NOT be the X86_64 package. That said, aside from NO SOUND, or Speaker on the Task Bar, my system is Smooth & Stable. Thx for the Help. Maybe I Should return to my "Ballmer & Gates" Distro. LOL until the Dev's are further along with the addition of X86_64.

For access to the test packages for 64 bit, add the word   test   to the sections line in Synaptic.

On 32 bit the word to add is   testing

I don't use ATi cards but maybe this one is what you need?

x11-driver-video-fglrx

This package corresponds to ATI Catalyst version 13.1.
