[solved]Canon MX870 driver
« on: January 19, 2013, 04:13:34 AM »
Hi guys,

My canon mx870 printer always print with draft quality, no matter how I setup printer properties. This is a edible printer, off course with edible ink, not the original canon ink, but I supposed this is not the problem because I can print in the other OS (and 90% use in this OS is for edible printing) without problems.
I already looked in canon site and found a driver but I don't want to install it until heard from you, is this a canon driver problem, that could be solved with the canon site driver, or even with this driver the problem remains, or is it a problem with the edible ink?

No, I'm using the "default" drivers that PCLOS installed when I 1st connected the printer to pc (about 1 year and 3 months). My doubt is if that drivers will make the printer work as it is supposed, or if even with that drivers I will get the some problem.

Tja, ... These factory drivers are made to work .... I don´t know right now if PCLinuxOS support this driver but I have my doubts. You deal likely with a cups driver or whatever.
If I was you, I would install the factory driver by lack of something better.. Not recommended to install "outdoor" packages but with Canon drivers I have never seen any problem. Installed many through the time. Still your call.

Ok, now, with the drivers you posted, I already have good quality in printings, thanks.

But now, which program should I use to print images or pictures? I tried Gwenview but I can only print a picture in portrait, if I print in landscape it prints in portrait with a lot of top and bottom margins (but if I rotate the picture 90 degrees it prints ok) , then I tried GIMP, and with Gutenprint it continues with draft quality (I didn't reboot after the driver installation), with the  normal print almost can print without borders, but it still has a few.
Is there any good program for picture printing?

A final question, how can I calibrate the colors to print the some color as I see in monitor?

Have a look at Photoprint (Synaptic)

bicol_willem,

thanks for you information. I installed Photoprint, it has a good features, and I can print borderless with it, but in the same way I did with Gwenview, rotate the picture 90º ;).
