New Website
« on: January 15, 2013, 02:08:18 PM »
Hey fellow PCLinux users,

I just finished building my 2nd. website ever and I would appreciate it
if you would take a look and give me your thoughts.
This was for a friend of mine and nether he nor I have any experience at site building
and publishing.
Some of the photos that his wife took are rather large and take some time to load
but I will address that issue as I become more experienced.

Here is the link to the site : www.dps3.net

Thanks for taking a look,
Ramchu

I would remove the

Code: [Select]

 target="_blank"

from you links across the top.  There is really no need to have each link opening in a individual window of its own.

Be sure to visit the NEW Knowledge Base

Consider  the addition of a map.

There are surely others like myself who have no Idea where Benton, IL is.

I would use something like Coppermine gallery, then you can put each vehicle into it's own album(one for cars, one for trucks) also google maps are very easy to embed into your page, a little more color would help, and maybe a left or right column for the menu. Also put some info into the "meta tag" section so search engines can find you. You might want to think about making the header a separate section. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble.you've got a good start. www.sandyvalleymedia.com

I like the first page. It does tell you the most important information.
The experts will show you the way better than I.
Good Luck.

The new tab being rendered causes navigation error if you click on a link on the newly rendered page:

Very important if you want the best from search engines is
<title>DPS Enterprises</title>
Every page should have a title, it shows top left on the browser.
Insert after head.
Look at the following from my site and add as required.

<meta name="description" content="Xtal Home of Service, Family, and friends
Sale and wants service for family and friends.">
<meta name="keywords" content="Xtal, Brownen, Merryweather, Mereweather, Merewether, For Sale, Second Hand, Wants, Adds, Einstein Computer, Church for Sale,">
<title>The home of Xtal.</title>
All of the above helps a search engine rate the site.
Note the commas between words in the key words.

If the IDOT web site has a section covering Vehicle Safety Inspection Certification you could consider having a link to it for customers to browse through it.

Possibly have an FAQ page as well.........

I would suggest looking at the formatting of the text .......  even something as simple as using justified formatting can help give a cleaner look to the text.

I agree, in spite of what the owner said, that something other than a white background would help.

Even a plain cream background would be preferable.

Black on white is not easy for some people to read ....  just as white on black is for others.

Not sure what your objectives are for cross-browser compatibility...I just happen to be in Konqueror, at the moment, and it looks like this:

Also, none of the buttons (CARS, SUV's, etc) work in Konqueror.

I'll be switching to Chromium shortly...I'll retry it from there...

In Chromium, the rendering looks similar.  The links work, but every link opens in a new window(tab).  That could lead to some pretty rapid proliferation...
