Teamviewer 8 will not connect to partner
« on: February 24, 2013, 01:46:32 PM »
Hello all, I am using KDE 4.9.5 fully updated from pass server. I installed Teamviewer 8 and it will not connect to a partner. A small box opens on your partners computer with a ok button in it when you enter a partners ID number and hit connect to partner. Teamviewer 7 did work prior to removing it. I also noticed under hidden files .teamviewer it had a folder for teamviewer 6 and 7 but nothing for teamviewer 8.

Teamviewer 8 installed on 32/64 PCLinuxOS versions on a desktop and a laptop. Both machines fully updated

There is definitely something wrong (at least on my machines)
First issue:
When Teamviewer is started it quickly shows a wine message box followed by a message box stating that the teamviewer deamon is not running and suggesting to run (as root) the command teamviewer --deamon start . Running that command does not solve the issue.

If I issue as root the command teamviewerd service the system response is: I need an action. However, despite the incomplete instruction Teamviewer does actually start and comes up with the usual window to key in the ID.
This 'fake?' root level service command is required after each and every reboot.

Second issue:
Connecting from desktop to the laptop should pop up a password box on my desktop so I can key in the password shown in Teamviewer on the laptop. That does not happen. In stead an empty popup box appears on the laptop with only an OK button.  There will be no connection. It looks as if the two machines are mixed up.

If I run Teamviewer from the command line with id and pass then I still get the Teamviewer Gui and gave given an enter to start trying to get a connection.

Teamviewer 7
I have a backup system (32 bits) on both machines which still holds Teamviewer 7.  Connection works fine between both machines running version 7.

Using version 8 on the desktop and version 7 on the laptop also works. I get access to the laptop

In need Teamviewer to assist my Dad whenever he gets stuck. Or I have to drive 120 km.

Hope this helps to find a solution.  A temporary solution would be to have Teamviewer 7 back in the repositories until Teamviewer 8 works for all?

Anybody having NO problems with Teamviewer8?

Mellon

I don't use Teamviewer so this may not help but have you tried adding a Teamviewer 8 folder just in case it's looking for it and can't find it?

Yes I did. I also completely removed the one under .config. It was regenerated after the next start of the program.

Teamviewer 8 is broken, if you need to use Teamviewer go back to version 7.

Yes, I would like to go back. But I prefer installing packages from Synaptic.
So, should I request Teamviewer 7 via the package update section?

Teamviewer 7 will be back in Synaptic for 32/64.

I was having the same problems as described, but just reinstalled it, and now it starts up correctly and gives me the correct user view.  I haven't tried it out yet, but up to this point its working as expected.
