I shot some video of my spare computer box running PCLinuxOS.  Hope it inspires others to give it a try.  And yes, this is the same box that had the Nvidia driver crash.  When I shot this video, I was still using the nouveau driver.  Still, looks pretty darn impressive for a six year old machine even with a temporary driver (Older version of Nvidia is now reinstalled and working.)

Nice video; I couldn't agree more.
Reusing an older system is also a great way to learn about hardware.

The Icy Dock tray-less SATA drive bays are excellent for swapping out drives.
I have a couple those that work very well, especially now that SATA cabling makes it so much easier.
I used to do something similar " back in the day" with KingWin IDE removeable trays.

Regardless of how old a spare system may be, one has nothing to lose by trying a livecd.
It's also surprising (perhaps not), that with a little research one can find a pci wireless card/antenna or usb wireless device that works with PCLinuxOS.
However, I would caution folks from throwing too money into older systems; especially IDE systems.  It's good if one has an abundance  of spare parts.

I agree as well!  I don't have any spare computers in the attic, but I've had my desktop since 2005. I have the swappable hard drive trays, and in the (extremely rare) occasion that I have XP booted, it's so slow it's pretty unusable!  I have my main hard drive with PCLinuxOS XFCE and it works great! My printer and scanner are connected here and the printer is networked to my laptop in the living room (also running PCLOS XFCE)....

PCLinuxOS is the best!!!!

Net thing is, I held my tablet in one hand to shoot it and used the other while I talked.  So, there was some jumping up and down and around.  When I finalized on youtube, it asked it I wanted to employ a video stabilzer.  I said yes and youTube did the rest. Smoothed it out quite a bit.

Nice video.  It's always good to see some old hardware brought back to useful life. I have installed LXDE on about 6 old machines that had less than 1GB of ram.  They are all being used by family and friends - even the old box with 384MB.
