I am wanting to upgrade my Desktop computer with :
Intel DB75EN motherboard
I core 5 intel processor
Now here is my question :
What will I have to do in order to be able to use my existing install of PCLinux on my
Hard Drive ?
Nothing much.
I have made three such changes to my main machine and still use the same hard drives with the same installations. My installations range from the original 2007 release, updated as far as that could go, to the fully updated 64 bit test5 installation. The original installation of the earlier 2007 version was done on am AMD Athlon64 3000+ on a 754 pin socket MB. This was followed by an AMD Dual core Athlon64 5200+ on an AM2+ socket MB. The current build has an AMD FX4100 four core CPU on an AM3+ socket MB. RAM went from 2 GB DDR on the 754 MB, to 4 GB ddr2 on the AM2+ MB, to 16 GB DDR3 on the present AM3+ MB.
The only adjustments made to any of the installations is selecting the correct video driver when graphics cards are/were changed. Graphics cards used were an AGP slot nVidia GeForce 6600 GT on the 754 MB, PCIe slot GeForce 8600 GT on the AM2+ MB, and a PCIe slot GeForce 9800 GT used on both the AM2+ and AM3+ MBs. The latter two graphics cards use the same nVidia driver, so no configuration change was needed when making that switch.
Two of my hard drives are in External cases, and get moved between whatever machines I currently have. I have to do the same adjustments for the graphics cards on them as well, if needed, but nothing else when making the switch. The oldest Machine is an old Compaq with an on board nVidia GPU, and I have to use either the nv or nouveau driver for that one, because nVidia no longer supports that GPU with its current legacy drivers.
If you are reusing the same graphics card with the new MB, you should need to do nothing at all beyond installing the hard drive and booting up.
