32 bit or 64 bit?
« on: January 14, 2013, 07:35:14 AM »
'm looking at having a new computer built.  Should I go with PCLinuxOS 64 bit or 32 bit?  Or maybe dual boot both?

64bit version of PCLinuxOS is not yet officially released (thus not officially supported).
It is still in testing phase.

32bit ........  unless you have some specific need to run the unreleased 64bit .......   you can upgrade the kernel to a .pae  kernel if you have more than 4GB RAM in the new PC.

My equipment can handle 64 bit, but as was stated above.. PCLOS 64 bit isnt "oficially ready for prime time, yet". ;)  Also,, I have an online game that refuses to play nice, under 64bit.

True, 64-bit isn't officially out yet, but I've been using it for the last 2 months without any problems (thanks to the quality of the packages provided  ;)).

I only had to add Truecrypt manually, everything else I need is available and works just fine. The system is a little smoother and also cooler (temperature-wise  :D).

Okay.  I'll go with 32 bit, load up about 8 megs of RAM and install the pae kernel.:)

my only problem so far with 64-bit is my monkeying with it... I haven't had any issues otherwise. Probably because we have one AWESOME group of packagers/maintainers.
