@Georgetoon
If you want to go back to the former driver,
now you are on the Nouveau driver it's easy to remove the dkms-nvidia173 and x11-driver-video-nvidia173 completely from Synaptic.
Switch to the nluug repo, switch off PASS and install dkms-nvidia173 version 173.14.31-1
Now you can go back to PASS, but before updating take care to switch off the update from the 173.14.36-1 version files.

Well, I reconsidered and decided to give this a try.  nluug repo is unreachable right now.

Quote
The repository might be no longer available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and the correct writing of the repository address in the preferences.

Yes.  Thank you.:)  However, "Thanks to the fantastic and professional help of the Dutch server the first step of the mirror move is now completed: "

nluuug is still unreachable.  I'm under the impression that server is ready to go...or do I misunderstand.

I guess I'll go back to PASS and just wait.:):)

EDIT -- wait...if dkms-nvidia-173 version 173.14.35-1pclos2013 should still be in testing, why is it still on PASS?  Shouldn't the older driver (dkms-nvidia173 version 173.14.31-1)be available?

They are still there.
1st remove the 173 drivers from your system. (2 packages)
Reload synaptic (using nluug mirror)
Search for the 173 drivers and mark them.
Install them and reboot

when I search for dkms-nvidia173, I only get one package.  Searching for dkms-nvidia gives three pckages:  dkms-nvidia173, dkms-nvidia96xx, dkms-nvidia-current

I've rebuilt the new driver with very minimal changes to the existing spec file. This one should be better, unless nvidia has introduced a bug. So, when 173.14.36-2 is in testing, everyone is invited. ;D A reminder, I don't have an nvidia card to test. ;)
