each time i open it it says there's a new update 4.1.8

i tried updating it through the package manager selecting reinstall since i did not see an update to click on and checking on the program itself i don't see an update button

Never upgrade a single package in pclos. Always upgrade the system as a whole. That way everything is kept working together.

The likelihood is that there's a new version of play on linux available which pclos has not yet packaged. Check the Package Upgrades area to see whether someone has requested an upgrade and reply with "+1" if they have. Otherwise start a thread there requesting an upgrade and giving all the relevant information (check the posting rules to see what's required).
