Parenting and Brain Development
« on: January 09, 2013, 06:46:03 PM »
I've worked with kids almost all my life and I know that good parenting is essential for kids development; I've seen how lack of stimulation may lead initially to a slow development and later to low IQ; I've seen also how the lack of communications abilities and bad treatment can lead to a lack in expressive language and even if the kid learn to speak he/she doesn't achieve complex forms.

There are many theories that link the affective aspect of parenting to psychological problems but I think this is the first time I see a report linking that aspect with brain development. I'm still looking for the actual report

I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Things are different today for sure. I grew up with the poem on the wall "Children learn what they live".
