new xperia z
« on: January 08, 2013, 12:45:49 PM »

"special emphasis was placed on the larger, waterproof Xperia Z. That's right, waterproof. When I think waterproof, I tend to think of something bulky, rubberized, and rugged, like the Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro . But the Xperia Z meets military specifications IP55 and IP57, which means that it's dust resistant and submersible in up to three feet of water for up to 30 minutes.

Of course, you need to make sure all of its ports are closed first, but they're very discrete. The phone is made from tempered glass, which is protected by an anti-shatter film on the front and back of the phone. It's a welcome change from all the smartphones that seem to be growing more and more delicate.

But a durable design is just one of the great features Sony has built into the Xperia Z. When you see it for the first time, you're far more likely to focus on the phone's gorgeous, 5-inch 1080p display"

i was thinking on getting a galaxy s3, forget galaxy s3!

the expensive waterproof z seems to be priced at $650 with no contract, the problem i see is that it is glass in front and in the back, like the iphone 4  :-\

still, i think it looks like one of the best phones done to date

FCC disasembles one xperia z to approve it on us market

"In a process that is required for it to be approved before going on sale within the United States, the FCC has performed a teardown of Sony's Xperia Z smartphone.

The smartphone, which made quite the impression during CES, is currently scheduled for a worldwide launch sometime during the quarter one of 2013."

seeing those pictures it seems that is highly reparable, seems very easy to change most of the parts, i find interesting the way the battery is connected, it seems to be a flex cable, i don't remember seeing another phone doing this before

I'd love to get one. I bought a 4 inch Xperia P and I simply love it. It cost me 290 Euros here in Germany, and it's worth every cent.

yes, except for the phone i got now, really cheap, i usually get good phones after 1 to 2 years later it was released

lately i am buying the phone in the middle, the high end phones are too expensive for me, unless i get them second hand, i never buy phones under a contract so i pay full price for them so i have to choose wisely but latest models like this xperia or some motorola and samsung really makes want to get one, especially for the camera, most of them has really good cameras

i only heard good things about that one but i must say that 290 euros is really expensive for me  :(

It took me some time to convince myself (and my wife!) to do it  :D

But since it's contract-free and I'm hoping to use it for 3-4 years, it's definitely better than being attached to a 2-year contract and having everything locked down.

If you buy your phone outright, can you get service from any of the major providers without a contract?

yes, under some circumstances a 2 year contract and a cheap if not free phone is a good decision

have a locked phone, is not a big deal, especially when you don't have intentions to move the phone to another carrier or if the carrier sells the phone unlocked, something more common this days

when you buy a phone unlocked you can put the simcard you choose and the system must accept the phone if there is no problem with it, sometimes the company has to check the phone to see if it works on the same frequencies they transmit their signal, if the phone uses 1900 and your carrier uses 850, then you can't use it, other similar details apply but in general there should be no problem

Same here in Europe, except that so-called quad phones (all 4 common frequencies available) are the norm. It also seems that contract-free phones are much more common here - you can go to any retailer and buy any of the popular phones.

And even if it's locked, there still xda-developers to find a way to unlock and root it ;D

on some phones the circuit that has the lock code is not affected by the firmware update, in others it is

the unlock process is just a one or two parts code that must be entered in the phone, the carrier asks to the manufacturer company the code, when they generate the code you just enter it and the other bands are unlocked then, same applies for those 3g or 3.5g modems

some carriers charge you for this process, others do it for free and as tschomer said, others give the phones without any lock system

the lock phone was made to avoid people leaving the company, you ended as a hostage, now the companies have to offer you good prices and good service to make you stay

i once heard that they locked the phones to avoid stolen phones to be used on another carrier but in most countries this never worked, unlock a phone illegally seems to be very easy so they have to do now is create a database with every imei on every phone sold or in use and if the owner reports a stolen phone, that imei ends locked on all carriers

recently, some smart people are stealing those phones and taking them to another country, where the imei has not been reported as stolen, so it can be activated without problems so the idea now is report the imei of each phone in a global database to stop this, if the phone is reported as stolen in us, it can't be used in another country and viceversa

Exactly. That's why I prefer a "free" phone.

It's mine, and I'll flash any rom, hook it up to my washing machine or just sit on it all day long. And ain't nobody doin' nothin' about it!  :D
