1 TB of storage you won't want to buy
« on: January 08, 2013, 07:13:49 AM »
"Kingston has announced the world's first 1 terabyte flash drive during the Consumer Electronics Show.

Set to launch during 2013's Q1 (between January 1 until March 31), the DataTraveler HyperX Predator 3.0 will offer read/write speeds of up to 240MB/s and 160MB/s, respectively. Kingston has launched a 512 GB version in the market, but it won't be cheap: it's priced at $1,750, with the price tag for the 1 TB flash drive yet to be announced."

For that sort of money you could buy a selection of tablet computers, a REALLY good laptop, or a very decent desktop pc.
Having said that, the way memory prices go, they'll be giving them away with a gallon of petrol in a year and a half.  :-D

Why even make something if you are going to charge such ridiculous money.

There are always early takers who have to have the latest gadgets. I would rather buy a 2TB portable HDD for a small fraction of the price of that flash drive.

I guess I am looking at it from the point of view of having no money.  :-\

If money is no object in someones life then I guess they just buy what they want.

I can't say if I had unlimited money that I would not buy all the latest stuff too.

I think these products are all about brand awareness. They don't expect too many people to buy them, but it DOES get people talking about them. It's all about the company saying, "look what we can do."
Back in the '80's, Honda made a motorcycle called the NR 750. It was very expensive to buy, yet Honda lost a lot of money on it. It was awash with new technologies and materials. It even had oval pistons. Not too many people could afford one, but everyone was talking about it.

if i had the money i wouldn't buy it

it is a usb flash drive, the smaller is $1700+ so the other at least will be $2000+

all that for a device that is popular for breaking when you accidentally hit it when connected, also easy to end lost so a expensive external hard disk is a better choice

you are probably right Nok, is more that way, publicity

I bought a 240-gig Kingston ssd drive for my laptop about 4 weeks ago for 194.16.  I'm in Canada, not the cheapest place to buy things (why do you think I use eBay).

THAT price is crazy.  Costco here has a 2-tib usb-3 portable drive for 139.00, around here.

I just bought two 2 TB SATA drives for $89.99 each, (one from Newegg, and one from Amazon) and one of these cloning capable USB 3 docking stations.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008JBD3DS/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_SC_dp_1

I already had two externally cased SATA drives with both eSATA and USB connectors. The docking station does the same thing in everyday use, but adds the ability to clone a drive without software or even a computer attachment. All you do is insert the drive to be cloned, along with a blank drive, then click a switch to the Clone position and press the Start button.

For those always wondering what application is best to use for cloning their old drive, when installing a new larger capacity drive, and what settings to use with that application, then still messing up, this seems a logical choice.  There is also an adapter available, to use with IDE drives, that will work with this and most other docking stations. ;D
