Yup, you can install another OS - be it Linux, Mac or Windows - and dependent on the resources you can give it, it should run fine .

As far as gaming goes a lot would depend on how much System Memory and Video Memory you can "allocate" to the Guest OS  The allocation is basically "taken" from your Host  OS so it will depend on your system specs

For example, if your system is running PCLinuxOS that would be your Host OS and the OS you install (windows or whatever) would be the Guest OS.

If VirtualBox doesn't install Guest Additions and a Extension Pack during the installation process you would need to install them manually which is easy; installing them gives you greater "functionality" within the Guest OS.

If you get stuck or need clarification, simply post your query and the forum members will do their best to point you in the right direction.

Good luck  ;)

I'm unsure whether Virtualbox can run "big" games in High resolution + anti-aliasing etc  as it's using a "Virtual" graphic driver(s) so you may need to drop the settings

My opinion is, if you need to play the latest and greatest games, you should consider creating a dual boot scenario with Windows/Linux.

VirtualBox, no matter how good it is for running other operating systems, it's not ideal for gaming.
3D support is not at its best and since the games you are going to play require 3D acceleration, I think you are not going to get the performance you need under VirtualBox. It is better (for me) to have a Windows installation just for gaming and use the full power of your CPU/RAM/GPU for that purpose...
For the whole world, you are someone.
For someone, you are the whole world.

I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,

I concur with others here, I think you should just run a dual boot, you are running windows anyway in the VB  so why not just install it alongside Linux and get full performance, that is what I do.  I once tried running a very light resource usage game in Wine, performance was horrible, in windows I got 60fps on high graphics settings, in Wine I barely got 12 on the lowest settings, that told me that World of Tanks certainly wouldn't work in Wine or a VB, lol.

hello again  ,  Ok   so after some research and input  i did a dual boot option  . it seems i will get better performance running W######s for gaming .  im greatly disappointed . i think PCLOS is a really really good OS .  if it were up to meeting the  modern standards IE: 64 bit  ,  latest video, cpu , power /power saving etc...   requirements  it would be a great system.  i hope someday to see it meet the current standards  so i can use it exclusively.

i will continue to use it for all but gaming for now

thank you

PS  im not really happy having to resort too using that other   OS.

I don't know what you expect ........  you surely don't expect an OS to be capable of running software written for a different OS  ???

So if you have games written for Windows then run them on Windows.
If you have games written for Linux then run them on Linux.

It seems quite logical to me!

MLUs rule the roost!

Windows games not running under Linux is not PCLinuxOS' problem.
They are written for Windows and are meant to run on Windows.

i will continue to use it for all but gaming for now

thank you

PS  im not really happy having to resort too using that other   OS.

Most people who want to play games or use programs that only run on Windows, are forced to do that.
But it's not Linux's problem.

You believe that when PCLinuxOS moves to 64bit or has the latest (and maybe unstable) drivers for all hardware in the market, you will be able to play your Windows games on it?
You are wrong. PCLinuxOS is a great system and you are free to use it as you wish.
Want to help make it better? Sign up as a tester or -even better- a packager.
Don't like it? Don't use it.
For the whole world, you are someone.
For someone, you are the whole world.

I believe that when PCLOS is available in 64bit it will run much better on modern machines, when hardware mfg's provide proper drivers for linux systems it will be much better also.

no i dont believe ill be able to windows games on any linux flavor as they are not made for linux (pretty obvious), i am reading where game makers are porting games to the linux systems.  (yaaa) .

i am still kind of new at linux but  i would like to help in any capacity i can as i love it and prefer it over the other operating systems for many reasons.

oh  and i am currently running the latest testing version of nvidia drivers v310 and have reported my results so far  to help as much as i can, ill sign up as a tester to make things official only because i like this system so much.

i didnt mean to offend anyone  i love this OS  and will use it as much as possible!!!!!!!
