well ok i was able to update the kernel  FM information now says:

Kernel-version:    3.4.11-pclos1.bfs
KDE4-version:                        4.9.2

i guess im running the right kernel release?  on my grub startup list i now see an entry for pclinuxos 2013  that is new  so i selected it  all is fine so far.  ill keep you posted

Hello Again

OK  well its been several days since i installed the new kernel and all iss well, i havent had any lockups. system is running fine. i think this did it and it was really an easy fix .  thanks everyone  i appreciate the help and am now much happier .

Oh  my temps range from 120's to 210 F  but since ive had no lockups since the upgrade i dont think temps  was the cause . i dont know what the exact cause was , but the kernel update seems to have worked

210 F - are you sure? That's very high for a silicon chip and sounds dangerously so for complex chips in computers. They usually have a maximum operating temp of about 80 C, which is about 175 F, and even that temperature shortens their life.

yes it hit 210 but only a spike there,  my temps seem to average 120 - 150 F  but i do get brief occasional spikes up to 200+   so im not too concerned
