i think that the solution to the problem must be use the same paper they use on the harry potter movies :D

A flip book may be nice. Each page has one frame, flip the pages to see it almost like a .gif.  may take a lot of paper though.

if the gif is like 100x100 pixels, then you would end being capable of print it on 2 or 3 pages, still< a big waste of paper
