[Solved] No sound at startup

Hi
Running PCLinuxOS 2013 and all is working fine except for sound.  The soundcard is part of the motherboard and is identified correctly when I run alsaconf
When I log out and in again I loose sound and have to run alsaconf again.
The files /etc/modprobe.conf and /etc/modprobe.d/sound are present.

What else do I need to do to have sound working without having to run alsaconf every time I reboot?

you can try after alsaconf  alsactl store.
it may help.
what is your comp configuration?

First of all give us some more information about your machine.
The output of lspci from terminal would be useful.
Are you using PulseAudio?
Can you make a screenshot of the alsaconf window right after boot? (when you have no sound)

Yep... more data is better than less.

Motherboard vendor, model, and in some cases, revision can all have an effect on the solution.
Which 2013 is it?  (KDE4, LXDE, XFCE, etc., or a combination environment?  Example: I run KDE4 but use LXDE as my primary environment.)
Do you have more than one sound card available in the system?
(That is, you're using the one on the motherboard, but is there another in the card cage somewhere?)

Definitely include the info agmg has asked for, too.  Let's work the problem.

Apologies for the delay in getting back, I have been away working.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA945gzm, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Geforce pcie gfx card and the sonundcard is onboard.  PCLinuxOS 2013 KDE.

I am not using Pulseaudio.

When I boot up I get a message that the soundcard is not working, resorting to default.

If I run alsaconf, I get sound, until I log out or reboot.

This is what I get after running alsaconf

You can also run alsamixer to check your volumes.

Try running alsactl -store after restoring your volumes with alsamixer or configuring with alsaconf.

This command will save your settings. Reboot and check.

Thanks, alsactl store seems to have done the trick.  I still get a message on start up that hda883 does not work failing back to default,  but sound works.

For that message on startup, try changing the priority of your sound devices in Phonon.
