Mount point for Swap?
« on: January 05, 2013, 06:58:53 PM »
I'm installing PCLinuxOS 2012.12 right now.  I'm repartitioning my hard drive.  I have / and /home all set up. I need to create a 4 gig partition for swap, correct?   Where do I mount swap?

BTW, since I'm not letting the Live CD do any work automatically, should I b formatting the partitions in Ext4?  Or would Ext3 be okay?  because Drakelive only shows an Ext4 label.

As a rule of thumb, the size of the swap should be 2 times the amount of memory you have on the machine.

The format is ext4 which is what the installer will do by default.  If you choose to use ext3 you will have to select or toggle to expert mode. them you can choose a file format that you desire.

And your swap partitions shouldn't have any mountpoints.

In /etc/fstab the second field of the entry for a swap partition should be either none or swap, not a real mountpoint.

Thanks, guys.  No mount point for Swap.  I just created a partition called Swap.

I have about a 200 gig drive i'm using.   30 gigs for /, 70 gigs for /home, 8 for swap (I think I have 4 gigs of RAM on this machine), and the remainder I'm formatting as Ext3 for storage.:)  Will it need a label like "Storage" or Mark's Drive" or something like that?  or an I just leave it unlabled?

This is cool!

http://ftp.vim.org/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/megagames/apt/

and

http://ftp.vim.org/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/

I'm getting errors with these.

s.so, uncheck the megagames for the time being and switch to possible heanet?  Will tht take cr4ae of things?  of should i wait until tomorrow for things to fully sync?

Unchecking of the megagames repo will do no harm. If you must update at the present time use only the Ibiblio server.  Neal made a post about the repos be moved and to only use Ibiblio or the pass server(s) at the moment.

Normally you shouldn't use the server at distro.ibiblio.org but for the next few days that may be your best option. - even if mirrors like, for instance, ftp.heanet.ie seem to be fully updated.

Okay, guys. thanks for all this great repo info.  I'm in no hurry.  2012.12 has all I need at the moment.  I can wait a few days. However, I just donated, so I'll have PASS.:)  Just in case I get too impatient.:)

As soon as I get my repo code, I can update.:)
