Google Hangouts

I tried to hookup with some friends on this and it stated I need some plugins.
Have these plugins been added to the synaptics or are they going to be?
I can't check until the urls sync up.

The ones they listed were for another distro and suse.

I can't get the page requesting the plugins to come up again, because the hangout is done for
the week.

I was trying to join the hangout and it required these files.

I got back to the page for updates, here is the request.

Note: Installing Google voice and video chat will add the Google voice and video chat repository so your system will automatically keep Google voice and video chat up to date. If you don't want Google voice and video chat's repository, do "sudo touch /etc/default/google-talkplugin" before installing the package.

I have been working with Lee2010 on this problem and he had me load and try chrome
and I get the same results.
Is there any member on the forum using kde, firefox. or chrome and is able to use hangouts?

I can go to hangouts and see and hear the different ones there but I cannot join them.

When I click on start a hangout it takes me to the page to get the updates.

Sure would like to get it going by Saturday for that meeting again.

You are not alone. The latest plugin doesn't work for either FF or Chromium.

Fix. Uninstall google-talk plugin via Synaptics in the repository. From the Google Hangout (where it says you need the plug-in update), download the 32 bit rpm file. In the directory you downloaded the file, presumably Downloads, hit F4 which brings up a terminal, enter su (for superuser), enter your password, then enter rpm -Uhv --nodeps (filename). Hit return/enter. It should read 100% and then Google Hangouts work.  Worked for me!

Well now that you have installed software outside of the repository, you have made your system officially unsupported!  Good job....  A far better solution is to have reported the official package from synaptic as broken and let the developers fix it.

It has always been a policy that we do not install software from outside of the repository. There are many good reasons for this policy. Support being the biggest.....

One, my fix is now; not waiting if a person needs to use google hangouts. Two, you have a surly disposition. Three, the link provided is nothing but a sales pitch. And lastly, I was told the 'help' on this website tended to be curt and rigid. Thanx for the confirmation.

Surly disposition is what you've just displayed, to someone giving you good advise.

My fix for that is banning you for a week, if you do that again, to give you some time to learn some manners.
