Bit Torrent
« on: January 04, 2013, 12:18:52 AM »
I would appreciate really simple, to-the-point instructions on downloading a
torrent file using KTorrent.

After not having any luck here, I managed to get the file to download in
Windows 7, altho I don't really know how I did it there.

I would also appreciate a comment on download speed. I am in the
process of downloading a 49MB Torrent filed in Windows right now,
and it's beginning to look like a 49 MB file will end up taking 3 hours.
Is that reasonable?  Is there a faster way?  Cable connection here.

Thanx for any suggestions.  (Please not RTFM--there are no man pages,
and the Torrent Handbook accessed  from the KTorrent "Help" windows
doesn't seem to answer the simplest questions.  I need to know, in
very simple and concise language just how to download a file
specified as a "torrent download."

Running completely updated PCLOS 32bit, pae kernel on a 64 bit
mobo, dual core cpu, 8GB ram.

Thanx for any help--doug

I use qBittorrent but I think is just the same, once you download the .torrent file just right click on it and select open with  Ktorrent

The speed of the download depends on the number of partners, it's relation with the number of seeds and the speed of those seeds.
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

A very simple and informative guide (which is also mentioned in our Wiki page):

I would appreciate really simple, to-the-point instructions on downloading a
torrent file using KTorrent.
Click on the download link in your browser.
With the default settings of Firefox it will come up with a window asking for a name to save to. Just click Save.
In the Downloads window that appears right click on the file and select Open.
KTorrent should start and download your file automatically.

Thank you, Russel.  That was certainly quick and to the point!  I'll try that.
