Laptop HP Pavillion DV7 series
« on: January 05, 2013, 12:33:45 AM »
Hi to all,
This is a tricky question!!!
Versions prior to 2012.08 of PCLos worked well.
2012.08 worked well I think, but 2012.12 does not start the Dbus. At least akonadi will not start.
If I go back to 2012.08 and it works, will updating bork the system.
2012.12 is running well on a Compaq B3800 laptop and all desktops.
Very thoughtful???

Hi ikatrau,
I have found another problem wit 2012.12 on laptops.
I got images from my very old Compaq B3800 laptop and it on my HP. installed fine. At this point I shut it down.
When booted the next day, I set up the wireless network, rebooted , but could not see any network devices. Nor could it find the PCLos site.
This morning I created an iso of my primary workstation, installed it the HP and again it would not network.
There is something very funny with this version of PCLos.
I  would try it to see if it works on your system, but backup any files you need to keep. OR create an iso of the system so you can reinstall if it fails. You should reformat your home folder as well.
I  am about to try the wired network to see if that works.
Will report back here on what happens.

I tried with the wired network, but that did not work either, I did try the same cable connected to w/s4 and that worked.
I can only assume mylivecd isos do not work well on some laptops.

I have now tried DHCP on the laptop (HP), and the system now works, it is mounting smb shares on other machines.
I have not yet found out about static address not working, will try later.
Gezza
Well, I tried to update via synaptic but it failed, could not find the internet.
Firefox did work , apart from smb4k, that was the only software that did.
so really, 2012.12 will not run on this HP laptop.

Hi,
After much playing around, I now have 2012.12 running on the DV7.
It appears that some of the OZ.  repos are off the air. so that what was the problems I was having.
Both static and dhcp addressing is now working.
So be careful how you do the installation, format /home and you should be fine.

hi. gezza!

Well, in fact I didn't installed PCLOS in the laptop since it's still in warranty. Now is running only the preinstalled W7. I'm thinking install PCLOS alongside W7 soon; maybe, meanwhile, it'll come out the 64 bit version oficialy.
Sure, might install the 32 bit version (was thinking about this variant; the live media works pretty good) but I'll wait. :)
I'm running PCLOS in my 32 bit desktop.
Yeah, we have to wait till the repos issues will be stabilized. Hopeful soon...
As for backups, I have an external HDD with all things I have in the two machines. In fact, in the laptop I don't have so much things stored; still have 500 GB free space... :)
