1. kwin is really close to what it compiz does and also is working as fast without much problem you will have problems

2. compiz is not what it was 2 years ago, if you visit compiz page, 0.8.8 is still the latest stable version, that was almost 4 years ago released, there is a 0.9.5 but afik, it is not stable and most distros are not using it

But "close" is the key word... I understand the logic but efforts need to be made to include 100% of the same functionality... I understand why the problem exists but end result is a new computer do less than an old one....

On the Intel/ 2 card thing.... yes i know and it annoys me yo... but I need the help of the distro to correct this, fact is you cant but a good system with out this problems, so a geed way to fix it or support of the distro to work around it.... If I could have got one with out it I would have but fact is you dont have that option in today's computers :(... when I asked the offish answer I got from PC lin was dont buy a modern computer....

Has that changed and PClin will help get the hardware working properly.... I with the DE(desktop environments) would fully assimilate the features compiz. but they are not and KDE scale is well not up to the par COMPIZ was.... If I had the money would pay a C/C++ coder to do the mod work... I am not talented enough to do it my self, but know Linux needs it to keep going forward in terms of UI/UX :(

Well an Amarok every time I go to the forms there I find the solution is in a new ver than is available in the PCLin repo.... So either it is being neglected or the distro is falling behind the curve... I have sympathy, and can understand it being low priority with it nor being the goal of the distro any more... and I here you on the you cannot please everyone.... I dont try only try and please me:)... not saying it has to support Amarok at all just saying it is a deal breaker for me....

PCLinuxOS has NEVER been, nor tried to be, a "cutting edge" distro. PCLinuxOS ALWAYS opts for stability over "cutting edge." If you want the most cutting edge distro, then that would be the one that starts with "Fed" and ends with "ora".

Most of us around here have come to expect, and appreciate, the emphasis on stability.

I here what you are saying and I agree for the most part.... but it is that fine line.... like said some hardware issues as of late... and it is a problem if I cant buy a laptop and have it work you know?

you keep focusing on compiz and your video card problems, we pointed on the right direction, kwin and new kernel

if the forum is not enough for you to fix your hardware problems, then this post won't help you at all, good luck with your next distro

And I hear what you are saying, newbie462. I, for one, am happy that PCLinuxOS hasn't forsaken older hardware in favor of newer hardware. I know I cannot afford to go out and buy new hardware every couple of years. Rather, when I get "new" hardware, it's usually something that someone is tossing out, or something I buy used or refurbished. I can also say that there is a very satisfying feeling associated with giving older hardware many more years of serviceable life.

The last computer I purchased (aside from all the parts to build my custom built desktop) was a Lenovo Thinkpad Z61T. Not the newest with the latest and greatest (Intel Duo Core, 1.8 GHz, 2 GB RAM, weak Intel graphics card), but I couldn't pass it up. I picked it up for $229 refurbished. Not bad for a laptop that originally sold for around $1000 brand new.

As Parnote says, I choose stability over cutting edge.

I installed PCLOS LXDE 2012.12 a week ago and it works fine, no I don't like how it looks and I'm in the process of changing it but under the hood is just great.

I use some programs from outside repos and one from testing but that's not a big deal, to this day my computers are stable.

I still don't understand why you didn't make a remaster to preserve your hard work, I use to do that and have saved me many hours of work.

Linux is about options, a friend gave me a laptop with 64MB RAM (Thinkpad 240X), PCLOS won't run on it so I'm testing Debian, Arch and whatever is needed to make it work. I hope you find what you are looking for.

I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.
