nikon coolpix s610c seems to not be supported, can't download photos

I have a nikon coolpix s610c camera and I can't find anything anywhere that help's.  I can't download photos from it.  Please help

What is your Desktop environment? For KDE I use digiKam. Plugin your camera and the device notifier should pick it up and allow you to choose digiKam. Now if digiKam didn't detect your camera, go to Import>Cameras and choose USB PTP Class camera and that might let you download your photo's.

I had/have a problem with my Canon camera in DigiKam and it may be relevant to your situation.

My camera is correctly identified by digiKam when I connect, but I am unable to download or view photos. I discovered that in the drop-down list my camera is listed with an incorrect model number. When I select that incorrect number all works as it should and I can view and download as normal.

So it may pay you to check if your coolpix is listed as, for example, s601c, or some other variation. Hope this helps.

Just found time to take a look myself.. nothing remotely like the s610c is listed. Back to the drawing board!

You could just get a card reader and use it instead of messing around with the darn serial cable transfer stuff. That is the way we went on a S800C a friend has.  So much faster and doesn't waste the camera batteries at the same time.
