« on: January 02, 2013, 04:13:58 PM »
hello guys

I notice the slow performance with intel VGA in KDE

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)

Is there any idea to Improve performance ?

Not enough information given to even understand the problem, yet alone hazard a guess as to a fix.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

hello Mr.Old-Polack , 5 days ago I had Nvidia 440 GT and I had a problem with it

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,110993.0.html

so i switch to intel integrated graphics and I see some improvement when making videos with ffmpeg no lag with kwin effects such as described in

Screencast

with intel now the animations a bit slow compared to nvidia , opening programs , etc

Not to dogpile or anything, but I think what Old-Polack is saying we need is more data on which specific Intel video system you are using.  A lot of the integrated Intel video systems use memory from the main RAM store (so-called "shared memory") which takes away from the main RAM for other purposes (like loading and running programs).  This can incur a minor performance hit for those programs.  It also certainly means lessened video performance over those systems that use their own (usually faster) video RAM.

It also wouldn't hurt to know a bit more about your motherboard, CPU, chipset, RAM load, version of PCLinuxOS you are using, etc.

More info is better than less.  Help us help you, please.

Dell Latitude D620, PCLinuxOS 2012.08 KDE4/LXDE, 3.2.18.pclos.bfs, specs here.

If you look on the net and distro fora's you will find many complaints about the speed and openGL compatibillity of those onboard/integrated Intell video. It's slowly getting better in Linuxland but strongly depends on how and wich implementations are made by the manufacturers of the motherboards and laptops.
So, if you inform us about make and type of your motherboard or notebook and maybe peripherals, there could be another user who solved most of your problems and is willing to share the solutions.
