unexpected shutdowns
« on: January 02, 2013, 12:06:24 AM »
All of a sudden the screen goes blank, the machine churns for a few seconds and turns off.

This problem had started at a few weeks ago but initially I had no clue what was causing it.

I think I figured it now. I can trigger it at will by playing this video

Microsoft's Concept of How 2019 Will Look Like - Official Video

I then immediately start the machine and find these in  /var/log/messages

Could it be that your system is overheating?
Playing videos will make the CPU/GPU temeratures rise and maybe it reaching a threshhold where it decides to shutdown the system

Never watch MS-related videos under Linux...

It may be serious or it may be not.

But with so much little info from the OP, we can't really help much... :)
