Lost internet connection.(SOLVED)
« on: January 13, 2013, 02:31:36 PM »
I'm running KDE with the current VM configured with Win 7 64 bit  and have used it for many months with no problems. I recently opened VM after a period on not using it and discovered that I have no internet connection. Win7 can find the network adapter which is configured to use a cable modem Until now I've never had any problems with internet connectivity as it was automatically detected by Win7. I tried setting up a new network connection but it doesn't find a modem.   A connection to the remote access server was not made because the modem was not found.      It also says that I have a unidentified network. I don't know how to solve this problem. Thanks.

All it required was changing network adapter to NAT from internal network. BTW what is NAT? Thanks again.

NAT = Network Address Translation
NAT serves three main purposes:
 * Provides a type of firewall by hiding internal IP addresses
 * Enables a company to use more internal IP addresses. Since they're used internally only, there's no possibility of
    conflict with IP addresses used by other companies and organizations.
 * Allows a company to combine multiple ISDN connections into a single Internet connection.

I wonder how my setting got changed from NAT to Internal Network? Oh well, problem solved is what matters most. If it happens again I'll know what to do about it. Thanks.
