<Solved partially>2012.12+kmail2
« on: December 31, 2012, 12:17:13 AM »
hi to all,
The machine I am on now is a 3GHz cpu+4GB ram AMD.
2 sata drives and 1 ide.
I finally got me email on this machine after some 24hours importing the local folder archive from my mail machine.
All was working well this morning-06:00am
Shut down the machine at 10:00 am
Switched the machine on again at 17:00 (5:00pm) this evening and lo----nothing at all in kmail2.
No folders at all. The home partition was very busy for about 1 hour.
Still no emails.
In the .local/share/local-mail there are folders and emails, and that is where kmail is looking for its emails.
it is not seeing anything at all.
Any thoughts,
Your help, is as always, greatfully received.
Gezza

gezza;

It sounds like kmail was cranking away on the mail archive to import the data into Akonadi.  It then either put it in the wrong place, or (more likely) Akonadi simply isn't presenting the data properly.

Use Thunderbird.  Linux Magazine recently gave KMail one star out of five in their reviews of mail programs.  It's for a reason.

Hi, Can I  import kmail folders into Thunderbird.?
By the way rebooting the said system did nothing even after 2 or 3 reboots.
Being switched off for some hours whilst working on other machines, solved that problem. On switching it on again
The email appeared.WHAT does a switchoff do that rebooting does not?

Good question.  I looked into this, but could not find a way do it whne I abandoned KMail.  Once over to Thunderbird tohugh, all you need is the .thunderbird directory.  That's it.  And you cna port your data over in seconds to any other computer running Thunderbird.  To my knowledge, KMail/Kontact still does not have a working backup-restore feature.  you have to export/import a quasi-MySQL database. Of course, when nobody besides a few developers use your software, you may not need to worry about it.
