I installed this today to see what it is about.
It is a streaming client for internet radio ..... a very simple one it seems.
First thing: ........ it asks for keyring password and then needs root permissions! Why?
After it is running there is no apparent means to change anything except by closing and re-launching it. Rather odd it seems.
Went looking and found that recorded streams are stored in
/usr/share/simplestream/recording/ripped
so I guess that is the reason for the root permissions thing.
There is a link to that directory placed in ~/Music/ripped
I would much prefer if this app did NOT access the root partition for storing its recorded files.
It seems 'odd' to me that it does.
The tray icon changes to red to indicate it is recording .... and each song recorded is placed in its own file. Very good!
The files here were named according to Artist followed by a number, rather than the song title ..... but that might be related to the stream info ..... dunno ....
So far the recordings are in Mono not stereo .... again might be the source I suppose ...
I will have to play a bit more with this.
Anyone else got comments/hints?
EDIT:
tried a different stream/radio and recorded in stereo and the file names include Artist and song title.
So those file problems were due to the source not the app.
