Script errors when trying to view pictures at Homedepot.com
« on: December 30, 2012, 08:26:53 AM »
Every time I try to view more pictures at homedepot.com, I get this:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js:4

Is it them or something I need to do to my computer to be able to zoom in and view more pictures of a product?

Is java script turned on in your browser?

tried amazon and menards, no errors. Amazon had pictures, but only two, both being the fridge unopened. :(

I am using firefox. Not sure about the java script. I'll try to find it

Exactly what are you trying to view at homedepot.com? I have a tab open to the site in FF and everything I've tried so far is working as expected.

Post a link to the page in question, if you would.

mini fridges. but I think anything I tried to click on, fails. It's where you can either zoom in, or see other views. a new window opens up, four little boxes in the center showing it's loading, and then the error pops up.

Badly written website, evidently done by someone that only coded for Internet Explorer using M$ site creation software. Here's what I get with Firefox;

Next is Konqueror;

Finally with Opera;

Bear in mind that Opera sued Microsoft because their web page creator was deliberately causing pages viewed with Opera to be distorted and unreadable. They proved the case by having Opera identify itself as IE, in which case the page showed correctly. They collected a lot of money and M$ was ordered to fix their app to not discriminate against Opera. That ruling didn't apply with respect to any other browsers, because they were not party to the suit.

My guess is that this works just fine in IE, and as we've seen, in Opera, but M$ is still playing dirty tricks with other browsers.

On the other hand, SeaMonkey Navigator seems to also work;

So to confirm, the same behaviour in FF
Found many complaints on the net about ajax/java scripts in FF.
Sometimes a timing problem in the script but mostly no solution.
First time visit with Opera on your site a completely crash.
Seccond time I could do and see all.
Chromium is positioning the zoom screens at the left site..........
Now I have to restart X to get rid of all the pid locks :(
Go to try with Firefox announcing itself as IE browser.
Later,
Ed

Can you hate more than one OS? I am sick of Apple. I actually sold it this morning. Don't miss it one tiny bit. Thought maybe I would.

more on topic: This is why I like Linux, more options to hopefully get something to work. I understand IE is not the only browser for Windows, but still, the many options found in Linux is just doggone neat :)

I haven't been able to find the java script yet in the settings. Will check again.

One thing you learn with Linux is that all sites are not equal. Most work well with any browser, but some have basic problems. Rather than mess with changing a lot of settings when I run into one, I just switch browsers, until I find one that does work with it. I use Firefox for this forum, mostly because it has some features that work better with the forum software than others. I do most of my general browsing with Opera, and almost all of my downloads with Konqueror, because it integrates with Kget so well, and has built in ftp. I also use Konqueror for working on the pclinuxos.com main site. SeaMonkey I haven't used that much, but installed it to help someone that had a problem with it on their installation. It seems to work well, in general, so I play with it now and then.

It costs nothing except installation time, and a bit of hard drive space, to install all the different browsers, and I have 4 TB of hard drive space, so once I install one I rarely uninstall it, unless I simply don't like it at all. The same goes for any type application in Linux. They're all free, so it cost nothing but a bit of time to try all that relate to any given type of activity, to see which I like best, or which ones have a fill in, less used feature, for something missing in a more favored application. One way or another, there's always some way to get what you need to do done.

I sometimes forget that. As far as hardware, software, like this app or software will only work on Windows or mac. I've been there. Browsers though, should work the same on any OS. But I guess they don't.

Strange, also Mozilla, Seamonkey Navigator is playing well with this site.
