Bose Soundlink - usb audio device
« on: December 30, 2012, 03:54:16 AM »
Hello,

On my machine, i have an Asus XONAR X2 sound card, that works fine.
Sometimes i will have the pleasure to hear music or to watch film with more sound effects on a Bose System.
For this i have a Bose Soundlink audio device.

This removable device works fine ONLY with music ON MY machine.
But it will not work with : web browsers or video applications (Kaffeine, VLC , ...).
When using web browsers or video applications, the sound is going through the sound card Asus XonarX2.
I had not find why

Is there anyone that an idea to solve this problem ?

Thanks for your idea

What DE version of PCLOS are you using?

Do you have PulseAudio installed and enabled?

Try this first:

If using KDE, then set the Bose device as the preferred device for ALL categories -

KDE CC - Hardware - Multimedia - Phonon

after setting the Bose device to the top of the list of one of the categories click button on bottom of page "Apply device list to all categories.

The Bose device must be plugged in for it to show properly.

Hello Just17

Pulse audio is enabled.
In KDE CC - Hardware - Multimedia - Phonon, in Read Audio, all categories are checked and are marked "Bose Soundlink Audio, USB Audio (Default Audia Device).

But sound from web browsers or video applications continue to go through "Asus Vituoso 200 (Multichanel)".

For information :
- in PCC, Harware, Configure your sound card : there is only the Asus Xonar D2
- the sound mixer give only the Asus Xonar D2 at screen. No Bose Soundlink is to see.

So at this moment, no change for me.

Install  pavucontrol   from Synaptic, and then launch PulseAudio Volume Control

Play something that is going to the wrong sound device
Go to the Playback tab of PA Vol Control, and change the output device for that playback to the desired device.

That application should then use that selection as the default on future launches, until you change it again.

It seems there are 2problems.
"Intall pavucontrol" : OK
"Launch  puse audio volume control" : answer on click in the Launch menu "connection failed : connection denied"
in a console : launch pulseaudio give answer "launch of the demon failed, no module loaded".

In a console (root), i have launch pulse-enable. A message have asked to reboot.

On lsmod, no pulse at screen.
Module snd_usb_audio has 0 user.

At this moment, kmix is installed but can't be uninstalled wihout uninstall package "kde-multimedia  (dragon Player, Juke, Kscd, Audiocd).

Obviously PulseAudio is not correctly functioning .......

"connection failed : connection denied"

"launch of the demon failed, no module loaded"

Try changing the   default.pa   file as described in this post (you might need to reboot afterwards)

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,105480.msg922606.html#msg922606

The proof of PA correctly working is when PA Vol Control launches and displays content on its tabs.
