File open hangs if folders present in target directory
« on: December 29, 2012, 08:54:35 AM »
On my pclos 32-bit (KDE 4.9.2) machine, the Folder view plasmoid, Dolphin and file open dialogues in applications all freeze for 30 seconds if the default directory contains sub-folders. This applies the first time the dialogue is opened for each run of the application.

Opening kwrite from konsole reveals one extra message which does not appear on my 64-bit (KDE 4.8.3) system. This appears at the end of the 30 seconds:

Code: [Select]
QProcess: Destroyed while process is still running.
I presume this means a waiting or looping process is being killed after a 30-second time out. At the end of that time the file and folder icons appear as expected. I would like some guidance on what the process could be and why it might hang in this way.

The problem affects all users - even new ones created to test and root.

I've tried searching for 4.8.3 packages and did find a couple of multimedia ones, but replacing them with their 4.9.2 equivalents has made no difference.

Any ideas?
