[Solved] Missing KDE Games
« on: December 29, 2012, 06:21:12 AM »
Hi,

I have a little problem with my old work laptop which is now mainly for my children's work and play. As it was a work machine, there was no games in it. Now I need to install KDE games for my children and to my surprise I could not find any kde games packages in synaptic.

My system is updated to the latest just a few hours ago and there seems to have no problem at all.

The only thing I can get from synaptic that has "kdegames" from my search result is kdegames-devel.

Pleas help, thanks!

Open Synaptic and go to Tools > Repositories and add the megagames repo

http://ftp.vim.org/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/megagames/apt/
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Even without the megagames repository there should be 41 game packages for KDE 4.9.2, plus a meta package that installs all of them. But search for kde-games, not kdegames. (And I think you should uninstall kdegames-devel  before you install anything else. It's probably an obsolete package.)

Thank you both for your reply. I'm now in office away from the old laptop which is at home. Will look into Bald Brick's suggestion.

To menotu, I have megagames repo in the list and it is updated. What I missed was kpatient etc which is part of the kde games pack.

Happy Holiday! :D :D :D

This is on 32bit KDE PCLinuxOS

In Synaptic - with only the megagames repo enabled - I entered kpat as the search term and it brought up: kde-games-kpat with a description of Several patience card games

Odd, that package is definitely in the kde section on heanet; (http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/RPMS.kde/kde-games-kpat-4.9.2-1_archie_2012.i586.rpm to be precise).

Edit: No, not odd at all if you already have it installed. Synaptic knows about packages in the repo plus all installed packages. If you disable the repo/section which contains them they'll be marked as local or obsolete, but they'll still be shown.
