Sharing files with Windows laptop
« on: December 28, 2012, 12:47:42 PM »
I have a desktop with PClinuxOS KDE and laptop running Win XP both connected to a wireless modem.

On the desktop using Control Centre>Network Sharing>Access Windows (SMB) shared drives & dirs>Search servers I can see my laptop. On selection it asks for Username, Password and Domain. First 2 are easy peasy, but what would be the Domain?

Any little help is a huge one to me.

Thanks.

you shouldnt be getting those questions in a simple file sharing setup.

You may need to change some settings on your windows side to not require those information.

Are you trying to access a user log in account or just a folder on the computer?

what does this command give you

smbtree -N -d2
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

I've experienced similar issue when  the windows account doesn't have a password. If there is a password it works fine. How is yours set up?
There is no shame in saying "I don't know".
