"Pssst.. "

Pork Butt does NOT come from the hog's butt. It comes from it's shoulder.  ;)

http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/porkbuttselect.html#defined

The "higher" up on a hog you go, the better the meat, hence the term, "living high on the hog".

It is also why the "butt" is better than the "picnic".  ;D

but a butt is not really a butt it seems ..... weird ......

Butt isn't it why it has such distinct flavor  ::)

Sorta makes you wonder, just why it wasn't called a shoulder ???

So why do we all like bacon so much ??? it it comes from the belly of the pig
'American bacon—called streaky bacon by our British friends—is cut from a side of fatty pig belly. It's normally sold in slices ("rashers" across the pond). Canadian bacon (English back bacon) is made from the leaner loin, located in the back.'

It is also why the "butt" is better than the "picnic".  ;D

Thanks!!!!

Hubby has it with ice cream... and I made it with Splenda so as not to skyrocket his blood sugar when he has some.... while it would be nice to skip desserts... we were all raised on them and it's hard to give them up when diabetes rears its ugly head..... and every little bit helps...

I have diabetes also, but I refuse to use Splenda when baking.  Even though they make it for baking, it is about half sugar and half Splenda mixed. Instead I use Agave, and have been quite pleased with the results, both with baking and helping keep the blood sugars in check.

Well, this morning finds a light snow falling. We got about another inch or so.  Temperature is 28 degrees.

A perfect day to fire up the slow cooker for chili!!

Ironically, with all the talk about pork, I have to relate what my nephew suggested.  Yesterday, I helped him move into his new place and mentioned I was thinking abut making chili today.  He told me to use 1 pound of beef (I'm using chili beef) and 1 pound of Bob Evan's Maple sausage.  It'll give the chili a nice sweet under flavor.:)
