PCLOS install on Asus Eeebox EB 1503?
« on: December 23, 2012, 03:00:35 PM »
Hello -

I recently ordered the Atom-powered Asus EB 1503 PC (http://www.asus.com/Eee/EeeBox_PC/EeeBox_PC_EB1503), which comes with 64-bit Windows 7 preinstalled.  This is not actually a netbook - there's no attached display.  I plan on hooking it up to a Asus 23" monitor (PB238Q) w/ 1920 by 1080 max resolution.  The EB1503 has 4 GB RAM and a NVIDIA Geforce 610M graphics chip.

I currently run PCLOS on a Toshiba satellite laptop and had no real problems with the install.  Should I expect the PCLOS install on the EB1503 to be any more complicated? In particular, I'm hoping to get the full resolution of the monitor.  Will I need special drivers?

Any general comments about the experience I should expect running PCLOS on this machine?

Thanks in advance,

My first thought would be to make a Live CD or Live USB and fire it up on the Asus. If you find any quirks, report about them and I'm sure the experts will answer quickly.

Good luck!

Update - my concerns about the graphics chip on the EB1503 were unwarranted.  When I installed, I configured the OS to use the NVidia 'GeForce Series 400 and later' driver, which seems to work fine.  For the monitor, I just selected the generic 'Flat panel 1920 x 1080' option.  I installed the KDE version of PCLOS, and everything seems fine except no sound yet.  I'll start a new thread for that issue.
