vidcollector:
8)For some time now, whenever I use VLC player I have no sound, however when I login I hear the start up sound
I have a ASUS G73SW laptop, with an intel sound card.
I have been looking at various forms with no success, now when I login in I see this error
The audio playback device HDA Intel PCH (ALC269VB Analog) does not work
I have run alsaconf as admin, but to no affect
Help Would be appreciated

The problem is specific to VLC? Is sound OK in other programs?
The problem is with video or audio or both?
What version of PCLinuxOS are you using?
If you are using KDE, you could try going to:
Configure Your Desktop --> Multimedia --> Phonon
and check what devices you have there. You could also try setting everything to the defaults.

Just in case you haven“t found a remedy ::)
This has/d been bothering me for a couple months - snd was working fine under vlc 1.1.13 ?? but after upgrade to 2 x would fail ??
I messed around with it for ages, uninstalling and re-installing, in the end I uninstalled vlc 2x and re-installed 1.1.13 along with all the plug-ins (no longer included under 2x ??) and presto every thing worked just fine once again.
On one of my boxes I completely reinstalled the whole OS (32bitKDE 12.8) to no avail.
Saw no one else complaining so carried on - unfortunately after each update (weekly) I would uninstall vlc 2x and re-install 1.1.13 - LOL.
System sound would work fine, as would all other apps (kaffiene, Clementine, xine) but not vlc.
Finally uninstalled everything pulse and viola - vlc 2x with sound.
Maybe not in your case but has been in mine. ;)

PCLinuxOS release 2012 (PCLinuxOS) for i586
PCLinuxOS release 2012 (PCLinuxOS) for i586
I keep the distro upto date with update notifier turn on
I have uninstalled most of the pulse
I have already done this
"Configure Your Desktop --> Multimedia --> Phonon
and check what devices you have there. You could also try setting everything to the defaults."
But still no luck,
In VLC player I now see this error
Audio output failed:
The audio device "default" could not be used:
Connection refused.
VLC player in my opinion is one of the best multimedia player round
Thanks in advance

...... and the answers to the above three questions ?
BTW .... confirm that the audio card is not turned off in BIOS.
