Lost Icons (again)
« on: December 21, 2012, 03:02:08 PM »
Hi,

I have  slightly different problem with desk top icons.

The icons are there in the home>desktop directory, but none are displayed on the desktop. If I try to make a desktop icon from an Application Launcher Menu item, the icon shows up in the home>desktop directory, but not on the desktop.
It seems there must be a switch or setting somewhere that has gotten set wrong, but I can't find it.
Does anyone have any suggestions where to look? ..  this is KDE 4.9.2-1

Thanks  in advance for any hints  ;)

Unlock Widgets then
Right click on the Desktop - Left click on Default Desktop Settings
Layout : Change to Folder view then click apply and ok

Thanks,

My Menus are set up a little different, though. I had to do: Right click desktop >  Folder View Settings > View > Layout.  Folder View was already selected so I had to select something else, then Select Folder View to get the icons back

By default Folder View will show the icons in the ~/Desktop folder but you can actually set it to point to any folder. Just click "Location" on the sidebar in "Folder View Settings" and pick the directory with the icons you want to see. Among other things this means that you can have different sets of icons on different desktops.

You can set up Folder View widgets the same way.
