just installed Full Monty. The panel at the bottom of the screen is left of center and it has widgets I'd like to remove or modify.

In a recent installation of PCLOS KDE I did for someone, it was easy to do...just right click and the options are there. Full Monty appears to be different. WHen I right click, the only options I get are "Smooth task settings" and "Panel Options" which only give me two choices, "Lock Widgets" or "add panel".

How do I modify the current panel?

Thanks in advance. I love this OS!

  • If the name fits... wear it.
timbrown527,

First, right click the panel and "unlock widgets"
you will then right click the panel again, and you will get a choice of "Panel Options"
hover over panel options and you will get "Panel Settings".... click it
The panel will enlarge, then when you hover over various icons, etc. you get a "up/down/left/right" indicator.  Click and hold and you can move the item.

Good Luck,

putz

note:  remember to "lock widgets" again or you might mess up something you didn't want to.

If it jams, force it.... if it breaks, ... it needed to be replaced anyway!!

Been there, done that.

The twist is this: If I create a new panel, I can do all these things. That would please me fine...but I'm not getting an option to delete the current one!

is there any way I can just get rid of it by deleting a line in a .cfg file somewhere? I could create the  new panel, then delete the old one that way...

Have you tried creating a new user and see if any of the panel options change ?

Logging in as root allows me to make all the changes to root's panel, etc. Not a problem.

Added my user account to group "adm" but that didn't help.

I'll keep poking around.

(later) added myself to group "root" and that didn't help either...

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you want to do but as I understand, smoothtasks is a panel-or-widget on your panel. When you click in an empty area on your task bar you are actually clicking a smooth-tasks panel.
Maybe what you want is found in clicking the cashew located on the extreme corner of your taskbar after widgets are unlocked. From there you can more easily see what is installed to your panel and manipulate panel settings & widgets.

apparently, no one reads the FM-information provided in each FM user's home account?
To unlock and then modify the FM-desktop you should use fm_setwidgets, see also here.

After modifying, use the same FM-tool to lock the FM-desktop.

good luck,

Maybe a picture will help.

1. Task bar left of center.
2. Two Launchers: KDE AND Lancelot. I want to delete KDE launcher.
3. NO "CASHEW" to edge of panel.

AGAIN: If I log in to root account, I can do what I want with the panel in that account. IF I give myself membership to ROOT, I still can't modify my own.
ALSO: if I create a new user and go into that account, I can't alter the panel in that account either!

I recently did an installation of PCLOS KDE on a friend's computer. The way it worked and the way my ROOT account works are identical. If I create a new panel, It's fully editable...But I still can't delete this one.

If you need more pictures, I'll post them.

NOW, compare and contrast what I can do with a new taskbar i create...as follows:

What inn the world is the difference here and what do  I do about it? If nothing else, is there any way I can just delete the original panel? In a config file somewhere???

Hey timbrown527,

the FullMonty desktop is only applied to the user and not to the root account. The desktop of the root account is modified the same way as any other normal KDE user-account. As mentioned earlier, and also explained in the FullMonty announcement, as well as the FullMonty info file in each FM user account, the FullMonty desktop is NOT behaving like the normal KDE desktop but has to be unlocked in a different way by using a dedicated tool fm_setwidgets, available from the menu or desktop 6, Tools:

at the end of the list is unlock widgets. Use this option, then customise your desktop as you want, then use the same tool to lock widgets

Hi Pinoc. Did it. Thanks!

I do have a question: Why would they set this up to be different from the KDE release?

Again, thanks for your time, patience and help.
