So rather then running a non repo package could you install Firefox for Windows under Wine and install Silverlight to it?

As far as I can see this install drop 475MB of M$ crap into a .Netflix directory under the user's home directory and places a script Netflix.sh under /usr/bin and a link to it in Start/Sound (seems to be an error should be under Video, I moved it there)

The first time you run this app it further downloads another 264MB of it own version of Wine, Windows, Netflix crap into /opt/Netflix directory.  Not ideal, I'd rather have it also in the user's home directory

The whole thing seems to run under wine.

I don't think any of the above can harm the pclos in anyway.

To answer my own question asked earlier if you just run the Windows version of Firefox in Wine and install Silver light you just get a blank screen the movie doesn't. run. Not really worth troubleshooting for me because I usually watch on a Roku player. Only got started on looking at this because the All Mighty Cloud crashed last night at Amazon which took out Netflix on several players. (Got to love the Cloud :))

So if megashare can do it, why can't Netflix?

Any of these options could be true.

Netflix has undoubtedly received many complaints from Linux users.

My money is on option..

4. Other  ;)

How many time have they promised that they would come out with a player that would work. Well I can't tell you, but it has been way to many times. Another in a long series of VAPOR WARE

Thanks guys/gals!  I have other issues that actually need to be worked right now but somehow watching a movie yesterday took priority.

It took me a minute to get through the instructions & install but nowhere close to rolling on a bed of needles or syncing the iStuff everyone has at home.  I was quite surprised how well it went.  I may or may not continue to be a Netflix customer but I'm glad I was able to add this to my very new PCLinux experience.

Just to go off topic here I think their attitude is much like MagicJack. They have always promised Linux compatibility but never have. Their latest version  which is advertised as "no computer needed" which plugs directly to a router would seem to be an answer for Linux user but no, to set it up requires using a Windows only program on a computer. A competitor, Nettalk, solves that problem when connecting directly to the router in a way so easy you have to wonder why Majicjack doesn't do the same thing. Nettalk simply allows you to do the setup through your browser so it is OS blind.

Back when I was trying to decide if I wanted to give up dial up and go for DSL I tried to see if Neflix had enough things to watch to make it worth while but no go. Netflix would not even let me see the list of available tittles because they detected I was on dialup. I found it very frustrating and stupid. How could they know I didn't have a second high speed connection I'd actually use for  viewing.  I vote for Other - failure to think outside the box.

Too bad Netfilx can't figure out a way to have a native Linux Player,  maybe it just isn't possible..............

They can ... but they refuse to drop the proprietary DRM crap. Seems their whole online delivery is based upon and centered around the use of Microsoft's Silverlight DRM crap. Meanwhile, HULU does just fine without using Silverlight, and their video streams seem fairly secure from being intercepted and copied. Netflix has crawled into bed with Microsoft, it seems, and is now dependent on Microsoft's problem-riddled and poorly written Silverlight.

When will content providers and software companies stop pandering to the users of just one OS? Seems a bit short sighted to me, not to mention creating hard feelings among those who are left out in the cold because they have opted to use a different OS. Another great example (besides Netflix) are the companies that sell U.S. Tax software. Virtually every tax software title could very easily be made cross-platform, simply by switching to programming the software under Java. Instead, most of the tax software packages are exclusive to Windows.

Hopefully, Valve bringing Steam to Linux will bring a lot of growth to the Linux desktop. I wonder if all these companies that are ignoring Linux users will then come around and start trying to woo Linux users into using their software packages. I, for one, will not have such a short memory.

Perhaps someone can/should make a list of alternatives to things like MagicJack.  I wonder how many know about Nettalk is available.

Good for you!!!!!!  Perhaps magicjack will start noticing that others are providing solutions, and things may start slowly changing.
