Too bad Netfilx can't figure out a way to have a native Linux Player, maybe it just isn't possible..............
They can ... but they refuse to drop the proprietary DRM crap. Seems their whole online delivery is based upon and centered around the use of Microsoft's Silverlight DRM crap. Meanwhile, HULU does just fine without using Silverlight, and their video streams seem fairly secure from being intercepted and copied. Netflix has crawled into bed with Microsoft, it seems, and is now dependent on Microsoft's problem-riddled and poorly written Silverlight.
When will content providers and software companies stop pandering to the users of just one OS? Seems a bit short sighted to me, not to mention creating hard feelings among those who are left out in the cold because they have opted to use a different OS. Another great example (besides Netflix) are the companies that sell U.S. Tax software. Virtually every tax software title
could very easily be made cross-platform, simply by switching to programming the software under Java. Instead, most of the tax software packages are exclusive to Windows.
Hopefully, Valve bringing Steam to Linux will bring a lot of growth to the Linux desktop. I wonder if all these companies that are ignoring Linux users will then come around and start trying to woo Linux users into using their software packages. I, for one, will not have such a short memory.
