Adding Netflix to PCLinux? HOW TO DO IT

OK it is not in the repo do any one know how to add the netflix application to PC linux?

All the stuff I find is about how to do it for another distro or another distro based like MINT...

This distro is called "PCLinuxOS" and if you can get support from "NetFlix" on a different Linux distro, I am sure we would love to hear how.

What distro did you get it to work on and how did you get it to work?

As far as I know, Netflix does not support linux at all.

OK I feel dumb just figured out what to do... all the directions on the net are for Unbutu using SUDO comands....

Translated For PClinuxOS:

STEP 1
Get the netflix player from sourceforge:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/postinstaller/files/data/Netflixplayer.tar.gz

STEP2
Extract the
Netflixplayer.tar.gz

STEP 3
Open terminal and log in as root using the "su" command easiest way I could thing of

STEP 4 - provide the needed access:
su -c 'sh Netflixplayer.sh'

STEP 5 - How to run it...
Running Netflix from cmd line:
sh /usr/bin/Netflix.sh

The good news is it works, the bad news is it is basically mozila running in a custom WINE bottle, tweaked to be some what app like... But it will let us watch netflix on our Linux boxes so not complaining.

Another note the netflix page renders a bit odd so you need to know the log in is in the upper left and to put in your user/pass, other than that and the round about way it works, it do work....


Another NOTE: for some reason it puts it under APPLICATION > SOUND in the KDE menu on PClinux.... instead of media, so you will need to search for it or move it manually in the menu unless it being there do not bug you

As far as I know, Netflix does not support linux at all. 

The instruction video for making Netflix work in Linux was given by Nixie Pixel (http://www.nixiepixel.com/) and couple of weeks ago.

Yes, Nothing but sound and a black screen.  I also have tried it from the command line, it does run, but it is very jerky and is stopping all the time and then plays a bit and stops again.  I ran a speed test on my internet line and am getting 9.55Mbps.  That should well be fast enough to stream without always having to stop and buffer the video.

Looks like it may have a layer bug....  try maximizing and un maximizing the window... do it reload the vid so you can see it?

Is there some functionality made available by going through this procedure, that is not available using the plugin/extension   "Media Hint" ?

I don't have a Netflix account so have no experience of using Media Hint for Netflix, but others have reported it working ......  even from outside the USA.
