USB FM Transmitter -- "LINEX" brand. Set up issue. SOLVED
« on: December 18, 2012, 10:11:03 AM »
Hello:

I've got Full Monty on my desktop. It's a dual boot with XP Pro.

The only thing really keeping me from dumping Windows is trying to get this device working. It is a USB FM transmitter, Linex brand. Works automatically with Windows but can't seem to get it going in Linux.

here's what Full Monty says about it...

Identification
Vendor: ‎Burr-Brown Japan

Description: ‎Burr-Brown Japan PCM2702

Media class: ‎Audio|Control Device

Connection
Bus: ‎USB

Bus PCI #: ‎7

PCI device #: ‎2

Vendor ID: ‎0x08bb

Device ID: ‎0x2702

Misc
Module: ‎snd_usb_audio

Anyone used one of these?

Thanks,

Tim

None of the reviews mention the obvious drawback of this device - that it could result in your computer and radios being confiscated for broadcasting without a licence! If the signal is audible outside your house or causes interference on someone else's radio you could (at least in the UK) be in very big trouble.

PCLOS is definitely seeing it and addressing it at some point. At boot,  it lights up the activity LED which usually only works when it's transmitting. No sound though.

Up and running fine! Using Pulseaudio...and had to change from oss to alsa when I was setting up XMMS.

i do have one question. When trying to set things up with PHONON via "Desktop" --> hardware --> Phonon, it said the details were "already open in system settings". Where can I find this???

Thanks for your help!

I am not quite sure of this  "Desktop" --> hardware --> Phonon

but if you had another instance of the window open (maybe accessed by a different route) that is the message you would get.

Sorry I left a few steps out. It was under "Configure desktop" then hardware then Multimedia then phonon. sometimes a window pops up and asks if I want to manage the devices. When I click "Manage", I get the above notice. It does this even after a reboot on a first attempt.

Oh well, it's working. Just wondering what I wasn't understanding.
