Bluetooth dongle not working on new install.(SOLVED)
« on: December 17, 2012, 12:11:33 AM »
(EeePC 701 4G with LXDE 2012 .06 up to date on 32Gb SD)

I have installed from a downloaded .iso 3 weeks ago, fully updated, and am very happy with the little Eeep except for a wee niggle: Bluetooth.
Went looking in the Forum and installed all the usual suspects from the bluetooth, and obex, searches in Synaptic as recommended. The dongle lights but there is no icon in the taskbar to activate or configure. Added both the suggested lines to /etc/rc.local to initiate on boot, but no result. I've done everything that I've done in past installs (I think), but... nothing.
Could a grown-up please walk me through what is different about 2012 .06 and how to get my dongle to go.
I have Jemimah's Puppeee on the SSD and it recognizes the dongle instantly and plays nice. So we can be happy that the dongle is alive and well.

Thank you.

Further research in the Forum indicates that since my dongle is a Cambridge Silicon Radio device, support for it may well have dried up since my previous install. So no more Bluetooth unless I replace the dongle?

Just a thought, have you tried looking in the System Tray to check whether the bluetooth icon is set to be visible, using either the Auto or Always Visible option(s)

You can check by right clicking in the System Tray area and choosing System Tray Settings.

Now look in the Display and/or the Entries section and enable any bluetooth options you see

PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Menotu: LXDE has a Taskbar and an Application Launch Bar and right-clicking either offers no opportunity to hide or display. ???

Ha Ha HA! But in Configure Desktop>System>Session Settings there is a choice of what starts with the Desktop, and Bluetooth was unchecked. Ticked it, rebooted, and Voila.
Mark it Solved, thanks.
