kTorrent
« on: December 16, 2012, 10:58:39 PM »
I'm using PCLOS Full Monty, and so far it's been a pretty good experience.
I am having one problem though: When I download a torrent using firefox it wants to open it in transmission rather than kTorrent.
But, kTorrent isn't an option given to me.
How do I change the default torrent program to kTorrent?

Interesting as I was looking for a association with magnet protocol. In Firefox I didn´t find anything "magnet" to associate anything with ???

"preferences- applications, and associate both torrent and magnet files with the torrent program." doesn´t apply here for some reason. Torrent is there, magnet is not ,,,

Maybe some one can enlighten me here?

If you have already associated the .torrent files with ktorrent, try clicking a magnet link to see if you either have the torrent open in ktorrent, or get a popup asking what to open with. I have always used ktorrent for regular .torrent files, and the very first magnet link I clicked on opened in ktorrent without my having to do anything else.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

I expected the same but ..... trying to open a magnet link results in:

The address wasn't understood

Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (magnet) isn't associated with any program.

You might need to install other software to open this address.

Looking for "magnet" under FF > Applications leads to nothing (No return on search for magnet)

Torrent links work fine.  Tried to install other clients like Transmission, Vuze (crash happy!) but no way to get it work so far.
Saying that with Vuze I can browse to the sites inside the app and then click any magnet link and it will start downloading. Call it a work around if you like.
But among all I like the stability of Ktorrent and the ease of Firefox..

Thanks, that solved the problem   8)
But me thinks this should nowadays be a "standard setting" in FF. So many magnet links around now.
Many a newbe could go through the roof!  ;D
