How strange is that?  I deleted the recup_dir.1 that was in the Downloads directory.  It had a couple pictures I hadn't seem in a long time and I copied first but everything else looked like junk.
Can I just delete tmp and Desktop contents too?

[root@localhost ~]# du -hsx * | sort -rh | head -20
950M    recup_dir.1
110M    Downloads
4.7M    tmp
28K     Desktop
4.0K    Videos
4.0K    Templates
4.0K    Pictures
4.0K    Music
4.0K    LibreOffice_Info.txt
4.0K    ekecupld.xml
4.0K    drakx
4.0K    Documents

Delete recup_* and make sure it is gone.
Leave roots Desktop, just have a look to see nothing is really there.
What is in Downloads, 110M, that is not empty.
Leave tmp, maybe use Bleachbitroot and ordinary bleachbit as user. Might help a bit.

Always pay attention to O-P, knows a lot.

Good call. Believe it or not there was a recup_dir.1 IN the downloads directory. I deleted that after I copied the earlier result and thought I had gotten "it".  Now it's gone.

du -hsx * | sort -rh | head -20
4.7M    tmp
28K     Desktop
4.0K    Videos
4.0K    Templates
4.0K    Pictures
4.0K    Music
4.0K    LibreOffice_Info.txt
4.0K    ekecupld.xml
4.0K    drakx
4.0K    Downloads
4.0K    Documents

Got it on O-P. He's my hero right after Texstar.

I had exactly the same problem with LuckyBackup when I first used it I filled up the root partition.  However, once I figured out how to use it and set it up to do an automatic incremental backup on the first boot of every day I've had no problem.

Russell;

Russell, Save me posting a topic. How did you figure out how to do the backup? It's driving me nuts with it failing.

I am not sure if roots home directory will automatically be recreated, perhaps not a good idea.

Do the search again for the biggest files:

>su
#cd /root
#du -hsx * | sort -rh | head -10
#du -hsx * | sort -rh | head -20  (If you want the 20 biggest files....)

Most files should be miniscule configuration files, so as O-P is suggesting something is amiss.

JerryP:

Just as an example I ran the above command in my /root directory, with the following results;

[root@fatman /]# cd /root

[root@fatman ~]# du -hsx * | sort -rh | head -10
48K     dmsg.txt
28K     tmp
24K     Desktop
8.0K    usr
8.0K    Downloads
8.0K    devel.txt
8.0K    devel-packages.txt
4.0K    Videos
4.0K    Templates
4.0K    Pictures

Note that the largest file is just 48K.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

I guess I should just delete my tmp contents then. I believe it will create anything it might need. That will make my largest 28k.
