How to create a simlink for a Wine program [SOLVED]
« on: December 15, 2012, 08:49:30 PM »
i've lost - lol - my Desktop link to a program under Wine.  i can see the program at

/home/me/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Ocean/ocean.exe

and when i click on it as root, it runs just fine.  But when i open Krusader as root and "pull" it to my Desktop and answer Yes to "Create a Simlink?", and then try to run it, it won't run.

i've also tried from the other direction, starting at the Desktop, right clicking and selecting "Link to Application", but it doesn't seem to work either.

What can i do to get this thing to work?

Have a great evening!  :)

i've also tried

ln -s /home/frazelle09/.wine/drive_c/Ocean/ocean.exe from my Desktop.  It creates a link but when i click on it, it looks like it starts to run, but then stops.

If i open Krusader again and click on this link, it works - what the heck is going on?????

Have a wonderful evening!  :)

Gotcha!  After Googleing for a while i discovered...

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-general-1/why-chmod-cannot-change-symbolic-link-permission-102012/

All my permissions on all the files in .wine were root.  i changed them to the correct user and group and the symlink now works!

Thanks guys and have a super night!  :)
