Gimp and Blender
« on: December 15, 2012, 10:56:43 AM »
Hi there,
I am new to pclinuxos ( The Full Monty) and I really like the interface, but I have a problem with it. Yesterday, I upgraded with Synaptic and I have discovered that Blender and The Gimp will not load. I get  the normal activity in my panel bur after about three seconds it will disappear; neither will run, I have to reboot, before I can try again.
Can somebody help me with this problem?  Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
rdhoward

Hi rdhoward, big welcome to the forum, lovely to have you with us.

I can confirm that Blender 2.64a will not start.

From a Konsole I get the following error messages

Quote
[billy@localhost ~]$ blender
Color management: using fallback mode for management
Fatal Python error: Py_Initialize: Unable to get the locale encoding
LookupError: no codec search functions registered: can't find encoding
Aborted

And as root:

Quote
root@localhost billy]# blender
Color management: using fallback mode for management
AL lib: pulseaudio.c:612: Context did not connect: Access denied
Fatal Python error: Py_Initialize: Unable to get the locale encoding
LookupError: no codec search functions registered: can't find encoding
Aborted

But no problem with Gimp, that starts fine

Thank you Menotu for your quick response. I did get Gimp to working by removing it and then re-installing. How ever Blender presents a problem which I hope you can solve, because I haven't the faintest idea where to start

rdhoward,

First of all, welcome to this great forum.

I am using an older version of Blender, 2.60, and it boots up just fine.
