« on: December 14, 2012, 02:15:02 PM »
The things i want to be able to home network are

1. Desktop running PCLinuxOS 2012 KDE
2. Laptop running  PCLinuxOS 2012 KDE

I already have everything connecting with my router what id like to do know is like a media server where i can access shared folders between my systems like my media files on my desktop on my ps3 in the other room. I'm new to Linux if there's info i left out or that you may need some additional info to help out please let me know

Check out the PCLinuxOS Magazine (http://pclosmag.com) or the Knowledge Base (http://www.pclinuxoshelp.com/index.php/File_Sharing), they are both good sources for the information you are seeking

In the December issue of the magazine there is an article on how to setup NFS (Network File System) and it uses an example of a Music Directory.

"whatever folder i click on and asking for user name and password and i set that up to be nobody and left the password empty just to make sure i went back and on both pcs reset the samba user password to nobody and left the passwords blank on both and restarted them and still dont allow me access....

There are so many possibilities it's hard to know where to begin!

You can set up file sharing systems like NFS. You can synchronise your machines with rsync. You can work from one machine in another with SSH. There are complete remote desktop systems so you can use one machine to do everything and use your other machines as thin clients.

The first thing is to decide what you want to do!

For a simple solution have a look at Texstar's tutorial: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,93375.0.html
